Interior Of The Earth Notes | Interior & Design

Earth is a dynamic planet. The surface of the earth is visible to us, but how can we know about the interior of the earth? There are direct and indirect sources to study about the interior structure of the earth. Direct sources include volcanic eruptions, mining areas and drilling projects. The structure of earth’s interior is layered. Seismic waves, temperature, pressure inside the earth, density of its shells and evidence from meteorites are the only sources of knowledge. Indirect evidence about the structure of the earth’s interior is obtained from the study of earthquakes.

No notes for slide. Interior Of Earth 1. But the question still remainsWHAT LIES IN EARTH’S INTERIOR? 2. Question of density• The average relative density of Earth comes out to be 5.5.• Surprisingly enough.. All the rocks found on Earth’s surface have a density between 3- 3.5 . 3. Earth’s Magnetic Field. When the earth’s crust gets ruptured, hot molten magma, ash and gases come out from the core to the surface of the earth. This results in the formation of a volcano and the magma released on the surface of the earth is called lava. Below the mantle is the core of the earth divided into outer core and inner core.

Notes of Chapter 3 Interior of the Earth Class 11th Geography Sources of Information about the Interior • The earth’s radius is 6,370 km. • As no one can reach the centre of the earth, most of our knowledge about the interior of the earth is largely based on estimates and inferences. earth from earthquakes and explosive sources, planetary motions of the earth, flow of heat from the interior, the magnetic field, and gravitational attraction), (3) laboratory experiments on surface rocks and minerals, and (4) comparison of the earth with the other planets, the sun, stars, and The Earth's crust ranges from 5–70 kilometres (3.1–43.5 mi) in depth and is the outermost layer. The thin parts are the oceanic crust, which underlie the ocean basins (5–10 km) and are composed of dense () iron magnesium silicate igneous rocks, like basalt. The thicker crust is continental crust, which is less dense and composed of sodium potassium aluminium silicate rocks, like granite.

Interior Structure of the Earth. The interior structure of the earth is composed of three main layers: Inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. The core is composed mostly of iron (Fe) and is so hot that the outer core is molten, with about 10% sulphur (S). The inner core is under such extreme pressure that it remains solid. Sources of Information about Interior of the Earth . The earth s radius is 6,370 km. It is rather difficult to make observations or collect samples of the material from inside of the earth due to its huge size and the changing nature of its internal composition. Only a part of the information is obtained through direct observations and analysis. Earth Notes 19 Earth’s Interior and Its Material Density Due to increase in pressure and presence of heavier materials towards the earth’s centers, the density of earth’s layers also goes on increasing. Obviously the mate-rials of the innermost part of the earth are very dense as already stated.

When the earth’s crust gets ruptured, hot molten magma, ash and gases come out from the core to the surface of the earth. This results in the formation of a volcano and the magma released on the surface of the earth is called lava. Below the mantle is the core of the earth divided into outer core and inner core. Configuration of surface of earth is a product of exogenic and endogenic processes in earth. It is the endogenic processes that determine the interior configuration of earth. Sources of study of interior of earth: I. Direct sources – Deep ocean drilling reveals humongous information through analysis of materials collected at different depth. Earth is a solid ball with a radius of 6371 km. Constant changes occur inside and in addition outside the earth. Interior of the Earth . Like an onion, the Earth is made up of several layers with one inside another. The crust. forms only 0.5 per cent of the total volume of the earth; is the uppermost layer of the earth’s surface

Importance of understanding the Interior of The Earth Understanding the structure of the earth’s interior (crust, mantle, core) and various forces (heat, seismic waves) emanating from it is essential to understand the evolution of the earth’s surface, its current shape and its future. the geophysical phenomenon like volcanism, earthquakes, etc. earth’s magnetic field the internal. Inside our Earth Chapter 2 of Class 7, Geography covers topics such as Interior of the Earth, Rocks and Minerals, Types of Rocks, Types of Minerals, etc. For students, it is essential to know the facts about our planet in which we live. Inside Our Earth Class 7 Notes Social Science Geography Chapter 2. What is Earth? The earth comprises three layers: crust, mantle and core. Constant changes take place inside as well as outside the earth. What is the Interior of the Earth? The earth is made up of three concentric layers-crust, mantle and core. Class Notes - The Earth's Interior. Introduction. A summary of the characteristics of the heterogeneous (zoned) Earth is given below: Continental Crust - Density = 2.6 g/cc - Granitic in composition. Oceanic Crust - Density = 3.00 g/cc - Basaltic in composition - "created" along mid-ocean ridges.

(ii) Name the direct sources of information about the interior of the earth. Answer The direct sources of information about the interior of the earth are: • Mining: It is the process of extracting valuable minerals from the earth. Surface rock or the rocks we get from mining areas provide most easily available solid earth material. It is not possible to know about the earth’s interior by direct observations because of the huge size and the changing nature of its interior composition. It is an almost impossible distance for the humans to reach till the centre of the earth (The earth’s radius is 6,370 km). Class 11 Geography Notes Chapter 3 Interior of the Earth. Gold mines in South Africa are as deep as 3 – 4 km. Going beyond this depth is not possible as it is very hot at this depth. The earth’s radius is 6,370 km. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and magma are major sources of the information on interior of the earth.
